Power Washing vs. Soft Washing: What's the Difference?

Both power washing and soft washing remove dirt, grime, and biological growth from your home's exterior. But they use very different techniques — and using the wrong one on the wrong surface can cause serious damage.

Power Washing: High Pressure for Hard Surfaces

Power washing (also called pressure washing) uses high-pressure water — typically 2,500 to 4,000 PSI — to blast away dirt, mold, oil stains, and grime from hard surfaces like concrete, brick, and stone.

Best for:

• Concrete driveways and walkways
• Brick patios and steps
• Stone retaining walls
• Garage floors

Soft Washing: Low Pressure for Delicate Surfaces

Soft washing uses low-pressure water (under 500 PSI) combined with specialized cleaning solutions that kill algae, mold, and mildew at the root. The cleaning solution does the work — not the pressure.

Best for:

• Vinyl, aluminum, and painted siding
• Stucco and EIFS
• Wood fences and decks
• Roof shingles

Why It Matters

Using high-pressure washing on siding can force water behind panels, damage paint, crack vinyl, and void manufacturer warranties. Using low-pressure soft washing on a heavily stained concrete driveway won't produce the deep clean you need.
